Personal Background
Rie Kodera studied art history, art theory and aesthetics and received her B.A. (2014) and M.A. (2016) from Kyoto University. For her doctoral research on French painter and art theorist Jean Dubuffet, she was awarded a fellowship from ETH Zurich and JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) (2016-2019) and effectuated her residency at Geneva University (2016-2018). In March 2022, she obtained her Ph.D. from Kyoto University.
Her main research is currently centred on the 19th and the 20th century French art and literature, with a particular emphasis in relationships between text and image. After lecturing on art history and aesthetics at several universities, she joined Kobe University in October 2022.
